License to Lie

“License and registration please,” an officer said leaning towards my window.

I handed over my information and asked, “What is this all about officer?”

“We will see in a minute,” he said walking to his squad car.

I sat back in my car and slammed my hands against the steering wheel.  I was officially late to my best friends wedding.

“Damn this had to happen of all days!” I mumbled while raking my fingers through my hair.

The officer walked back to the side of my car and said, “Ma’am imma need you to step out of car right now.”

I stepped out of the car and replied, “Officer what seems to be the problem?  Was I speeding or did I run a red light?”

“I will be the one to ask questions.  Now step out of the car and put your hands on the hood,” the officer said as he started to frisk me.  “Now turn around and face me please and put your hands out to where I can see them.”

I did as I was told.  He walked towards my car and started searching everything from under the seats to the trunk.  Once he popped the trunk he pulled out a mysterious bag and box and mumbled, “I found it,” and took the items to his car.

“Ma’am you’re under arrest.  You have the right to remain silent.  Anything you say or do will be used against you in a court of law.  You have a right to an attorney.  If you can’t afford one, one will be appointed to you.  Do you understand these rights,” the officer said as he slapped a pair of handcuffs on me.

“Sir I don’t mean any disrespect, but I really don’t understand why I am being arrested?”

“You are being arrested for suspicion, conspiracy, illegal substance with the attempt to distribute, and an expired license plate,” the officer said as he starts putting me in the back of the squad car.

“What are you serious?!  I just bought this car and I never done any illegal substance let alone try to distribute them!  This is madness!” I said as my head was forced inside the car.

“I’m sorry ma’am.  I am going to have to take you downtown.  Now sit down and shut up,” the officer barked at me from the front seat.

I put my head down and started crying.  I have never once ever been in serious trouble in my life and this was a traumatic experience.  My perfect record went out the window as soon as the officer asked me to step out of the car.

We finally made it to the station.  The officer pulled me from the car and yanked me up the stairs and inside an interview room where three other officers waited inside.  Their cold stares gave me shivers up and down my spine.  One light shined above my head as the door slammed shut.

One of the officers that were already inside threw down a folder that flew open in front of me as he sat down in front me.  The chair squeaked under his weight as the toothpick moved from side to side.

“Let’s get down to the chase.  You are in some serious trouble.  We have evidence that you were involved in a conspiracy to bring down the highest seat on earth.  Fingerprints, videotapes, experiments, and data were collected that links you to the crime.”

“But I did nothing wrong!  I was commissioned to do some side work for someone!  Her name was Angie Whitener.  She is slender, kind of short, and semi long hair.  She asked me to do some analyzation for her company.  I didn’t think that would be illegal,” I said in between sobs.

“Well funny thing there is no one that fit that description, but since all the fingers points to you, you are our lead suspect.  Boys take her to the holding cell and let her think about what she has done.”

I was pulled up to my feet.  My body fell numb as I was escorted by the officer.  I couldn’t believe what was going on.  I entered into the cell with two other females in the room.  I sat down against the wall not knowing how I got myself in this particular predicament when I heard that unforgettable laugh.  I looked up to see “Angie Whitener” herself.

I jumped up and ran to the cell bars and said, “Hey, Angie Whitener!  You, you are the reason I am behind bars!  Yo tell them the truth and get me out of this cell!”

She turns to me and said, “I don’t know what you mean.  My name is not Angie Whitener.  My name is Angelica Whiter and I am lead detective to be exact.”

Two other officers started laughing and walked off down the hallway leaving me and Angelica face to face.

Once the officers were out of earshot she whispers to me, “Don’t blow my cover because if you do shit will hit the fan.  By the way thanks for carrying out my plans I couldn’t have done it with out you.  Shoot if they figured out that I was behind some type of conspiracy they would have been my head.”

“So you lied to me?!  I can’t believe you!  I trusted you and now I am going to be behind bars forever!” I screamed out.

“Well that’s the price you pay when you trust someone like me.  I will see you in court,” she said as smiled and walked away.

I stood behind the cell bars stunned, saddened, and confused.  Twenty minutes later all the cops popped out and said, “April fools fool!” and busted out laughing.

“What!” I screamed.  “All of this was a set up!”

“Man we had to get you back from last year when you pretended to hold up the station,” one of the officer said as he opened the cell.  “There is cake and punch in the break room.”
